I. Comprehension questions:

A. Read the questions and write the Answers.

1. Who was Chandan Das? What kind of a man was he?
Answer: Chandan Das was a wise and able minister.

2. What was the great task that Chanakya did?
Answer: Chanakya's great task was to place Chandragupta on the throne and establish him as the king of Magadha.

3. Why did Chanakya want to win over Rakshasa?
Answer: Chanakya wanted to win over Rakshasa because he wanted to secure the service of a wise and able minister to help Chandragupta rule the kingdom.

4. What plan did Chanakya hit upon to find out Rakshasa?
Answer: Chanakya spread the rumor that Chandan Das was in danger and needed help. He then arranged for Rakshasa to rush in and save Chandan Das.

Answer: The people shouted in joy when Minister Rakshasa arrived, realizing that Chandan Das was saved.

Answer: Chandan Das was treated with great honor. Chanakya made him agree to be the Minister of Magadha and offered him rich presents. Chandan Das was then sent home.

Answer: Chanakya succeeded in securing the service of Rakshasa by creating a situation where Rakshasa could save Chandan Das, making him a hero in the eyes of the people. This impressed Chanakya, and he offered Rakshasa the position of Minister of Magadha.

Her father came to her help and divided the mango equally.
